~ The Shape of Your Curls Matters More Than You Think…

A great curly style doesn’t happen by accident.

You may look at the finished result and see defined curls, volume, movement and a beautiful overall shape ~ but there’s a lot happening underneath that final look.

The cut is part of that equation.

Your curls have their own blueprint…

Curly hair doesn’t fall the same way straight hair does.

Curl pattern, density, shrinkage, length and weight distribution can all affect how the hair behaves.

Two people can have a similar curl pattern and completely different results from the exact same haircut.

That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to curly hair.

Shape matters…

One of the biggest things I consider when working with curls is where the weight is sitting.

Too much weight in one area can cause curls to fall flat, while removing too much in another area can create unwanted volume or disrupt the overall shape.

The goal isn’t simply to make the hair shorter.

It’s to create balance, movement and a shape that complements the way your curls naturally form.

And shrinkage matters ~ a lot.

What you see when curly hair is wet isn’t necessarily what you’ll see once it’s dry.

Curls can spring up significantly as they dry, which means cutting curly hair requires an understanding of where those curls are actually going to live.

That’s one reason curly cutting requires a different approach.

But the cut isn’t the whole story.

This is important.

A beautiful curl shape still needs the right foundation and styling approach to bring it to life.

Cleansing, hydration, conditioning, product selection, application and drying all play a role in the finished result.

That’s why I look at the whole curl experience, rather than treating the haircut as an isolated service.

The goal isn’t simply:

“You got a haircut.”

The goal is:

“Your curls make sense.”

They have shape.

They have movement.

They have definition.

And, most importantly, they work for you.

Your curls don’t need to fit a formula.

They need an approach that considers your hair and your lifestyle.

That’s where intentional curl cutting ~ and intentional curl care ~ can make such a difference.
